San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato are home to the Expresión en Corto Film Festival. Each year the film festival hosts a Spotlight Country and this year the festival celebrates the world’s most prolific film industry, India. Filmmaker Deepa Mehta was honored Saturday night with a Tribute at the Teatro Angela Peralta. Mehta has become one of India’s most controversial and taboo-breaking filmmakers. Her credits include Fire, Earth and Water.
Following Mehta’s tribute, she and 25 others enjoyed a delicious dinner at Andanza. Guests feasted on a tasting menu prepared by Casa de Sierra Nevada’s Executive Chef, Gonzalo Martinez that included a ceviche and tequila tasting as well as his celebrated Cuitlacoche Cappuccino.
Indian director Shayan Bengal, Mexican actress Yolanda Montes “Tongolele”, and the honorable Mr. Rinzing Wangdi, Ambassador of India to Mexico were also in attendance.
